What a fantastic list! It inspired me to cover some of them. Versions that respect the old arrangements to the fullest, but are easy to the modern ear! Would love to hear from you what you’re favorite would be! Take care in these difficult times. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLd6rrp70rR_YltXQtCoeKA?view_as=subscriber
Hello,
I am looking for the song I have seen on youtube regarding the man picks up the citrus flower and ask a little girl to give it to the girl that he loves. Could you please give me the name of that song? Thank you so much.
Hi, when I lived in France in the early 1970s, often was played a song with a refrain or line like “On prends un tren parfois a quelque part…”, and at the end of the song, there is a line like “jusqu’a ce jour on prends le tren [of no return][or: that does not return]. I know the English meaning of that last line, but not the song’s exact words. I think the singer was a woman. I would love to know the name of this song and who the singer was, and to find the lyrics! Thank you, anyone who knows!
i think im wrong but it could be
on prend un toujours un train pour quelque part by Gilbert Bécaud
Hey,
I remember from years ago, I watched this video clip where there was a red-curly-long haired woman singing, wearing a green velvet coat. The video was colourful and crowded with other people dressed different like sort of fancy gothic cirques style (or maybe i saw it like that with my child brain back then). I remember it was a french song. I really wish to remember.
Mylène Farmer

I’m searching for a song that showed a man singing in a bar/pub…it is fairly mellow and slow paced…if anyone could help me identify the song, I’d be grateful…the song had, I believe, 3 band members and the background was mostly red…

I’m looking for a popular slow French pop song sung by a male in the mid 70s. I heard it in French 8, 1978. It seemed to have the line “Elle est tu, Elle est tu”. Can you help me find it? Thanx :)

I think the song you’re looking for might be called “le bal des chats” by cecile corbel
There’s a cool song that I heard because the teacher was playing music in French class. I think it was rather recently made, but I can’t find it. It says something about “Tu oui un … salon” and something about an oubliette. It is really catchy! It is kind of slow and the melody repeats a bit, but I have no idea what it is.
Hello, I am looking to find the awesome French dance song that came out around 2014 to 2015, it started with a phone call from a girl telling her man to come and find her in a certain nightclub, the music was insanely brilliant and for the life of me I just cannot find this song. Can anyone help, do you know the clip atleast? He turns up at the club and finds her in the crowd……
Moi lolita?
This is a long shot, but there was a french music video I watched in french class in ’07-’08. I don’t know if it was new at that time, but I believe it was a boy band. The music video was blue tinted and I believe it was a love song and possibly shot in a school? The only thing I know for sure was the music video was blue, but I remember loving it and have lost hope of ever finding it because of not knowing any other significant details.
Hello, i´m looking for a french song that i saw on mcm once….i only remember about the videoclip and i think someone was stuck inside of a glass pyramid ( a guy or girl)….please help, ty
Is there any chance that it is Les Planètes by M. Pokora ?
Hi Monica hope you will read this. I’m french, pretty sure you are talking about 1.2.3 from Team BS.
Yeah they were very popular at that time but nobody semms to care about Team Bs from now on. Like the One Direction to compare with a moste known group :)
1 2 3 by team BS was released in 2014 but it is a catchy “un deux trois”.
Its a music video on YouTube. It starts out with a guy ( Maybe early 40s) and a old woman (i dont remember what age she was.. But she was wrinkly if that helps..) I think it was Ben Michel was his name..
Hi! I am desperate to figure out this song that’s been stuck in my head. It was popular in France / Europe in 2007. Female. Very upbeat and pop. One of the songs starts with counting in french. Someone once told me the lyrics were sexual. That’s all i have to go on. Any ideas???
Please am searching for a French song sung by a trio group consisting of a white female,a black male and a white male. The black male did the rap. The song is about racism/colour difference not existing or so. I remember a phrase from it “La moi difference ne pas”. Thank you very much.
PS: I really cannot remember if the group consists of 3 or 4 members.
Hi, I’m looking for a French song that I remember listening to a year ago. It’s a duet, male and female. I remember seeing the music video, it being grey and white, or the background being white and grey. It starts off kinda slow, then just kinda “hits” in the chorus. I believe there’s a lyric talking about “broken dreams” or “shattered dreams”, and I believe the woman starts singing. It’s fairly new; clearly after the 2000’s, and I really like the song. Someone please help me if you can.
It could be “Madame Monsieur - Mercy”, let me know…
I think you are talking about ” J’ai encore reve d’elle” by “il etait une fois”.
this list is waste of time without Aznavour…
Disagree, the list is for more contemporary music. And Aznavour is great – since you commented, people will now look him up.
Je suis entièrement d’accord. Superbe Charles Aznavour
I’m looking for this French song that I don’t know the name to. It’s s phone conversation where at the end of the song, she revealed that she is not alone but is with someone else. The guy was asking to come see her but she told him not to. “Non, ne vien pas.” “…?” “Je ne suis pas seule.” Then the guy cried… Non, non, non…” Hope someone could help me find this song. Thanks
Im also looking for that song. Have you already found it?
Where’s Tourner dans le vide on this list. It’s a fantastic song
omg yessss i love that song. i was literally listening to it a minute ago lmao. i was trying to find that song on this list
ZHU - Faded
Hello, I’m looking for a song from late 90s or early 2000’s. It’s sung (or whispered) by a man, whose voice is pretty similar to Serge Gainsbourg. I can’t tell about the lyrics, but he repeats the name Natasha or Natacha over and over. I’m not really sure about the song style, but it was like lounge or something like that.
I hope that you can help me, I’ve been looking for it for years, and it’s killing me.
Thanks in advance, all the best from Chile!
Bonjour Luis,
You’re looking for by Natacha by Gregory Czerkinsky. Here’s a Youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI5J-hUBLZU
Thanks for visiting my site :)
Hi im actually from france and whoever’s reading I suggest “Elle me dit” which translate to “She tells me” and it has a meaning basically. saying you should follow your dream NO MATTER WHO tries to keep it from you! The lyrics mainly talk about a mas girlfriend/wife who calls him a child and says he’s odd for keeping his dream because he won’t get rich. But soon she realizes its more about happiness and not money💜🇫🇷
Thank you so much I was actually looking fo it and couldn’t find it was like that’s looks familiar thank you so so much

Hi i am looking for a song in which there is a waiter/barman who hallucinates that he is a sexy singer and all the girls are crazy for him.I just remember that it had words like ‘oui j’aime les femmes ‘or ‘les femmes m’aiment.’ Maybe in the year 2003-2007.
I’m looking for an old pop song, in the music video there were like 3 guys singing on an island that looks to be scottisch.
I think that bagpipe sounds were played in the chorus.
It was a cheesy song, but well known.
I love Manau, weird but great songs!
Can somebody please help me find a song in french (guess french) that i heard on a german radio channel during vacation in 2014.
Unfortunately the only I remember is that it was a male singer, the song was not jazz but jazzy and there was a super catchy saxophone that appered several times in the song.
Alors on danse ?
Thank youuuuuuuuuuu I found at the end I was searching for it for years
I’m trying to find a song that I used to hear in the early 1980’s. It was a love ballad in French. I heard it when I was little in the Azores and can’t seem to find it. I don’t even know how it goes but I know I loved it and danced with my mom. I was ten when she died and would love some songs to listen to so I can find it. Thank you.
I’ve really hunted high and low for a song now. There’s a man more like talking the lyrics to a very beautiful animated music video. I saw this around 2011. The title of the song could have been a womens name. Hope someone knows which song I’m talking about…
I’ve got only a lyric…and the only thing I can remember is something about les poneys sung by a French woman kind of clubby and fast. It was an amazing track around 2014. You’re a miracle worker if you can help!!
I am looking for a song that in the video its 4 guys singing it is french but there is some lyrics that are in english but while there singing there walking/dancing but there blazers change colors anyone know the song or the group?

The Original song “Je te donne” was composed by Jean-Jacques Golman and sung in duo with Michael Jones.
Hoping you can make an old girl happy! I am searching for a 70s (or perhaps even late 60s) pop song that I loved . . it may have been called Aime or Aimer. The chorus goes. . . “Aimer chaque jour et meme si c’est fou crois moi aimer et donner ton coeur a l’amour”. It had a great pop beat and I simply cannot remember the guy who sang it either. Great site by the way!!
“Aime” by Michèle Torr (not to be confused with J’aime”
Here’s a link to the song on YouTube! :)
https://youtu.be/zPc_40wQQks
Best French singer/songwriter by far is Francis Cabrel (‘the French Bob Dylan’) several of his songs should be on this list. I can’t see any. And where’s Renaud?
Hi, I’m searching for an old classic French love song. It started out like a phone conversation…C’est moi…(a man calling a woman). I heard this song way back in 1982 so the song may have been older than that. Could you please help me? Thank you.
Le Telephone Pleure by Claude Francois
Ello, I am here asking about a song that when in the chorus says “trip” and the artist is french Algerian. Thanks dudes.
I’m looking for a real pop-like(even a bit african influence in the beat) french song with 3-4 black male singers. Really made me dance couple of years ago. A lot of colours in the clip as I remember

I’ve been looking for a song where the music video took place at a beach and there was a woman in a flowy dress chained down in the sand. I think she manages to get out of the chains at the end of the video by switching places with a mean man. The song was a soft song sung by a male. I’ve been trying to look for thia song forever but I forgot the name and who it’s by.
Looking for a singer/video in which a black man (balded) sings in french about liberte in front of a huge crowd only with a guitar and is killing it… he than speaks to the crowd and tells them its also about their freedom why are you so quiet sing louder… who is it??
Hi there. I saw a clip two weeks ago (not sure if the clip is recent though) where a guy falls in love with a girl he sees across the park. Later in the clip he/she seems to get shot but rose petals come out of the chest instead of blood. The clip repeats itself kind of going back until the end where he does not look at the girl and does not fall in love. Can anyone tell me who the artist is and the name of the song? Thanks!
Look for Lomepal yeux disent I think it’s what you’re looking for.
Good luck
Lomepal - Yeux disent ?
searching for a french male singer -I think with a beard. In video he sits in a restaurant/bar and about 3-4 women approach him, one after the other and they get mad at him. Song was popular in the last 5 years. Who is the singer?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLNr3_YNeJc
i think you are talking about that
I am looking for a music video and song with a french woman with long blonde hair. And a guy a rappet who makes a ballad. I dont knlw the year but i guess early 2000s.
There’s a blonde French singer named Priscilla. Could that be here?
Could it be Sans Rancune ft. La Fouine by Sindy?
I’m looking for a song that features big Ali, and in the music video there were like dancing guys wearing different colors, and the lady had red lipstick on I think, and in one part of the video she was wearing a purple wig— does it kinda sound familiar? I saw it in French class but I dont remember what it was called.
Rose - I think you’re thinking of
Donne-moi le la by Maude!
https://youtu.be/e_2SVr4L6mo
a recent song within 3-4 years. Rap and hip hope french song. definitely two male singers. Chorus is something like “bund e labus” or something. Not sharp in memory.
On Holiday in the Vendee I remember 3 songs one was R Kelly ,The worlds greatest , The Calling ‘s hit was another, but , sorry to be so vague but I only remember this crazy song coming to a chorus and the male group saying ‘Molly doily’. I also think it had a link to football.
Hey im trying to find this song that kept showing up on my YouTube ads for the longest time and I completely forgot who sang it and what it was called, it had like a party feel to it and it was about two people that like each other in school and it had like a scene where the guy (singer) took the girls camera and made her like a wall of photos or something
I’m looking for a French song I heard a few days ago, on my iPad, by accident, when listening to music on YouTube. Forgot to write down the title.. It’s three short words. The male singer repeats the same words (the words in the title?) and then the female singer takes over. Please help!
FG
Perhaps your talking about ‘paroles, paroles, paroles’?
I’m looking for one French singer who looks similar to Corneille black and has song with music video riding some bus and later they came out in morning and kisses somebody like romantic song! It was in 2006 I believe!!
Try listen to Rene Vallere and his beautiful music, lyrics from the album MARA. My favourite ‘Couleurs’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfG6dJyFoPs
hi i’m looking for a french artist/ song i chanced encountered on youtube a few months back. unfortunately, i can’t remember the song or the artist. the only thing i rememeber is that it had a spoken word feel, since the singer was saying long lines / he was not really singing.
Joe Dassin perhaps? L’Été Indien - I first heard the song many years ago on an aeroplane and spent months looking for it - hope it’s what you’re looking for - all of Joe Dassin’s songs are great for learning french and it’s lovely easy listening if possibly a little old-fashioned for some
Maybe it was Fauve?
You can’t have a list of French songs and not have one Mylène Farmer song, the queen of French pop. C’est Une Belle Journéé, Desenchanter. Libertine, and so many more with a career spanning the same as Madonna and used controversy very smartly. Her ethereal darkness put into musical poetry is unique. Who else can make a hit pop song and dance remix about suicide? Nobody. She has a huge cult following. Definitely an original and a list is never complete without any of her catalog on it.
What is the peppy song with the nonsense words that has a music video with some older men dancing and posing, one of whom is shirtless? I believe it came out this year
I am searching for a song that I heard around 2010-2011. The first part of the title is a number, something like 1770 (although I dont think that is the correct number because otherwise I probably could have found the song). I think the title also contains the word “irai”. The video depicts a man singing in a colonial style outfit and if I remember correctly, there was some whistling.
maybe this? 1789 Ca ira mon amour - Rod Janois
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Om4EIUWrYQ
could it be ça ira mon amour by 1789?
Non non rien n’a changé, from le poppys?
Their is a song called c’est la vie , I would like to ask for the person who sung it
Cheb Khaled?

Khaled - c’est la vie
Alain Souchon - Foule Sentimentale! (l’un de mes favoris) :-)
Foule Sentimentale needs to be here! Especially the duet version with Vanessa Paradis. (being a Vanessa Paradis fan is also how I heard about Mistral Gagnant which IS on this list. :) )
Looking for song about Felix the cat
i agree with theresa:
your selection never mention anything before the
boring 2000’s.. What has become of the roaring 80’s ?
Etienne Daho ? Alain Bashung ? Hubert Félix Thiefaine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7x1n-0MmLNg?
And what about the very intellectual Gérard manset ?
As somebody else said before, this list can’t include everything. There’s always something else out there.
This list serves as a starting point for those who know ZERO French songs. You’re encouraged to explore and look around for other stuff.
agree,
60’s are the golden era of french music. IMO. Easy listening, romantic, unforgettable. Some are cover from US/UK artist, but lovely to hear
Hi a lot of french starsof the eighties are ontour together since 10 years. It call stars 80 and it s great, but only in France. You.can see youtube videos. Greetings from France

Great list man I’ve added 70 songs from this list to my mobile … waiting for the second playlist … and for those who are complaining …this list is not made for those who want to see their favorite song on the list , it’s clearly said “100 songs you must hear” so have fun listening to these songs and stop whining

A song in which a male singer ask for forgiveness from female singers and that videos shows a lot of girls are dancing before the stage.

P.S the singer of the song looks like JIM CHAPMAN (youtuber)
I think you’re looking for the song:
RIEN QU’UNE FOIS by KEEN’V
It’s in our 2016 list of French music.
Early Alizée would be at the top of my list.
I am trying to find a French song that was being posted on Facebook several years ago and the only thing I can remember is there was a picture of a couple sitting at a Sidewalk Cafe table but I don’t believe it is “Putumayo Presents - Paris” if I remember it correctly the picture was similar but I think it was a narrow tall image and darker in color more grays and black. The music was slower and definitely sounded French. Thanks for any suggestions.
MUST be on this top 100.
lol
so true
You should listen IAM - L’empire du côté obscur also :)
I do fully understand that selecting only ;) 100 songs in French must lead to omitting some artists and every list has to be mostly the reflection of one’s personal taste in music, but I could not help noticing just by glancing at the list that some of very popular musicians are not included…Joe Dassin, who made numerous hits, such as Et Si Tu N’Existais Pas, and Zaz whose voice and songs are unique and incredible.
Salut Amy,
I love Zaz, I have 6 songs of her on my iPod - I’m shocked that I didn’t include one! But yes you’re right that it’s hard to include everything. I was thinking about making a part 2 to this list with 100 more songs so that I can make more people happy.
Thanks for your comment
Salut John!
Thank you for replying.
I think it is a great idea to make one more list…maybe to put one list for the oldies and the one for the songs for the new millennium.
And no matter which artists and songs end up on that list of yours, it will surely make people happy, because the main purpose of the music is to make people happy, IMHO! :)
P.S. May make one more suggestion for the list, please, please? :)
The song that always brings smiles and nice memories to me since my childhood is…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TilQ8BIHisw :)
Perhaps you can slice and dice your lists into decades. Your list is most from the 2000’s so all you have to do is start a new list for the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s . Thanks by the way this is awesome. It is not easy to find the good songs on youtube when you don’t have somewhere to start.
That might be a good idea. Maybe under each decade I’ll have a “click here for more songs from this decade” to another list page. You’re correct that it’s a bit skewed to new music.
You have missed the Maestro Charles Aznavour in your list.
